I woke up this morning in Tallahassee, Florida at Keith Rowe’s house. I’m super grateful to him and his wife for putting me up for the night, especially since the motels here in New Orleans East are more expensive than I had hoped. After getting an awesome home-cooked “man-omelet” (eggs, turkey sausage, spices, etc.) cooked by Keith, doing some work, and having a pulled pork sandwich and Georgia peach for lunch, I hit the road.
On the plus side I didn’t get pulled over today. On the negative side however my car is in fact leaking oil despite the mechanic’s claim to the contrary. Fortunately, there is a Pep Boys just down the street from my hotel so I’ll pick up a few quarts tomorrow. I think it needs a new oil pan gasket (like I told him). I may pick that up as well.
Today was the first day I really drove west and I crossed over into Central time. I’m now west of Chicago and about in line with St. Louis and Memphis. On a side note I learned that my GPS, a Garmin Nuvi, displays the arrival time in the destination’s time zone.
No pictures today. I thought I took some great pictures, but my iPhone didn’t handle the sun glare very well. I may have to start using my Nikon D70.
Tomorrow I will be returning to the DevExpress/GeekGive house being built by Habitat for Humanity on America Street in New Orleans East to see what progress they’ve made and put in another day’s work. Yes, I’m already hydrating. On Sunday July 4th I hope to connect with some folks here for whatever festivities are going on. Might there be an Independence Gras parade?
